Reading some of these comments about “the church” is so disappointing.
And I get it…
Some people have been hurt by people who called themselves Christians. Some have been hurt in church buildings. Some have seen and experienced hypocrisy, pride, control, and all kinds of mess.
But I also think sometimes we call things “the church” that Jesus never called HIS CHURCH.
The Church is not just a building.
It’s not a pastor.
It’s not a denomination.
It’s not a Sunday routine.
The Church is the people who belong to Jesus.
The ones He made new.
The ones sealed with His Holy Spirit.
And that’s why somebody can sit in A CHURCH building every week and still not really be part of THE CHURCH.
That’s heavy, but it’s true.
But it’s also why you can meet another believer anywhere in the world and feel that connection. Like wait…you know Him too? We’re family.
That’s beautiful to me.
The Church is not beautiful because people are perfect. We are not. At all.
It’s beautiful because Jesus is still building it. Still redeeming people. Still filling people with His Spirit. Still changing hearts. Still making a family out of people who never would have found each other without Him.
So yes, people have failed.
Churches have failed.
Leaders have failed.
But Jesus has not‼️
And His Church is still His Bride.
Still alive.
Still growing.
Still being made ready.
And I just wish more people truly wanted to understand what the Church actually is…instead of letting the loudest, most foolish examples define it.
“…I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.”
Matthew 16:18
